A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. CARL ELLIS HARRIS AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON HIS RETIREMENT.

WHEREAS, after more than 25 years of service, Mr. Carl Ellis Harris retired as the manager of the Roosevelt State Park on March 31, 1999; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Harris, born on November 29, 1936, in Pineville, Mississippi, in Smith County, was raised on a farm, where he learned valuable lessons, including self-discipline and hard work; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Harris, an outstanding basketball player at Pelahatchie High School, earned a basketball scholarship from Hinds Community College; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Harris continued his education and basketball career at Mississippi College, where he received a bachelor's degree, and he received his master's degree in education from Jackson State University; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from college, Mr. Harris began his coaching career at Sand Hill, Mississippi, and in 1965, he moved to Morton, Mississippi, where he coached basketball until 1973; and

WHEREAS, in 1971, Mr. Harris, who compiled a career record of 312 wins and only 95 losses, coached the Mississippi High School All-Star game; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Harris became the manager of Roosevelt State Park in 1973, and under his leadership and guidance, the park has become one of Mississippi's most outstanding parks; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Harris has been lovingly supported in all his endeavors by his beautiful wife, Mrs. Alice Windstead Harris; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend such outstanding Mississippians as Mr. Harris, who is a man that is highly respected by all who know him:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Carl Ellis Harris upon his retirement and extend to him our heartiest wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Carl Ellis Harris and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
